Shared Bedrooms – How To Make It Work

If you have more children than you have space, it’s time for some creative solutions.

Sharing a bedroom means having two of everything – duplicate beds, dressers, storage units etc. To avoid conflict over who has the better desk or dresser consider the same furnishings for both children.

Their individuality is expressed in your creative approach to decorating each child’s own space.

One good approach is to give each sibling his own set of belongings in his own color and seek input from him regarding how he wishes to decorate his part of the shared bedroom.

It’s important that shared bedrooms have some consistent design elements that tie the room together and a storage system which encourages organization from both parties.

To eliminate major design and décor conflicts it’s important that you harmonize the individual spaces. By carefully meshing two tastes into one overall environment you can create a welcoming space that’s ideal for both sleep and play.

Encourage your children to either decide on two different but coordinating room colors or one main color in two different shades.

Keep things simple, separate and color-coded. Add variety and distinction to each siblings area by incorporating brightly colored storage bins and laundry hampers.

Consider adding striped and patterned accessories to an otherwise basic colored backdrop.

Bed linens are another great focal point for individual tastes. Think floral and plaids or stripes and solids. Reversible bed coverings are also ideal in shared rooms.

Consider stackable storage cubes that not only divide the space but also serve as storage compartments for each child’s belongings.

When it comes to physically dividing the room, screens with hinged panels may be just the answer for siblings who have a real love/hate relationship. The hinges make folding and storing easy when your kids are having a good ‘shared’ space day.

Fancy Diapers For Every Baby

Fancy diapers, my version anyway, are any cloth diapers. Diapers that are not filling our landfills at an alarming rate, diapers that are gentler on a baby’s skin and diapers that are “cute”!

Diapers are a topic near and dear to many new mothers. They listen to the horror stories told by their mothers and grandmothers and revel in the fact that they can have the best of both worlds. No longer is it safety pins and rubber pants; but velcro and designer water resistant diaper covers.

The first diapers were leaves or moss in an animal skin. This is what was used for over a thousand years, except in the very warm climates where they babies went naked all year ’round. The first “modern” diaper came into existance in the 1800’s and were huge rectangles of cloth that was folded to fit the baby’s size. Rubber pants wasn’t invented until after WWII!

Today’s diapers, my fancy diapers, began to be seen as early as the 1960’s, but due to the huge popularity of disposable diapers, were never widely used. Did you know that the first disposable diapers still required safety pins? It’s true! As more and more people are becoming aware of the danger that disposable diapers pose to our environment, the popularity of cloth diapers is growing.

There are no facts in yet regarding the affect all those tightly (hopefully) wrapped bundles of feces and urine will have on the population when they do begin to break down, but I, for one, think we should all react BEFORE those reports start to come in. I can only imagine the billions of germs quietly “sleeping” away in the landfills.

Fancy diapers can be the all popular Pocket Diaper that allows you to put as much filling in the pocket that your baby requires. Less during the day and more at night – as needed. All in one or AIO Diapers consist of the water resistant covering with the inner filling attached. It’s a smart mom, however, who will add a little bit extra as their baby gets older and sleeps through the night.

Puppy Potty-training Tips

While your lovely new puppy may have an abundance of licks and cuddles, what it doesn’t have the built-in knowledge to tell you when it needs to go potty. Potty-training can be one of the most challenging tasks a pet owner can face, and without positive training techniques and patience, it can be a very daunting experience! In this article, we’re going to discuss a few tips that can help significantly ease the stress of training your pup.

Before you begin training your puppy, you must realize that it is a learned process for him, and he is, after all, only young. Potty training a dog takes a lot of patience, and you can usually expect accidents to occur for a good 1 – 2 months whilst training. When your puppy has an accident, you have to be willing to take some of the blame onto yourself (“I should have been watching him better.”) and pay more attention to his body language. Puppies generally show signs that they need to potty, such as whimpering, restlessness, or the ever-famous “enthusiastic sniffing & circling” of the floor (not to be confused with his sniffing the furniture or walls, which is just his way of getting to know your home).

The first thing you must realize is that 15 – 20 minutes after a puppy eats or drinks, he will usually be ready to potty. The key is to have him in the right place when the time comes. Taking your pup outside about ten minutes after he eats for a ten minute romp around the garden not only saves you from having a mess to clean up indoors, he will also become familiar with the routine and recognize the proper environment for “potty time”.

The next tip is to try to schedule your dog’s meal and potty schedule around your availability to take him outside. Try to think of times in the day when you can spare about 30 minutes—that’s roughly the amount of time you should commit per feeding/potty session. As mentioned before, it’s very important that you establish a routine with your dog, and you’re more likely to keep up the routine if it works to your convenience.

When you’re home with your dog, try to keep him with you as much as possible. Not only does this make it easier for you to learn and recognize his signs of needing to potty, but it also helps to establish a bond between you and your puppy.

Praise your pup when he does his business outside. Pick a word or phrase you want him to recognize as prai

se. Typically it tends to be something like “Good boy/girl”. Now is also a good time to begin teaching your pup the word “no”. Repeating it clearly and firmly when your puppy has an accident will familiarize him with the phrase and he will eventually realize that this word crops up when he does something naughty.

Lastly, try to make the process as simple as possible. While it’s great fun to romp around the yard with your pup, you’ll want the focus of potty trips outside to be solely for that purpose. Later on you may want to combine walks and play-time with potty breaks, but for the sake of keeping your puppy as least confused as possible, try to separate the activities until he has become housebroken. Also, try making a pallet of newspaper in an area of the house your puppy can find easily but won’t offend family/guests. If you catch your pup in the act but can’t make it outside to correct him, move him to the newspaper quickly to show him that until he gains better control, there is one place in the house acceptable to potty. Some have reported that leaving a small bit of pup urine on the newspaper will encourage him to go there.

Keep in mind that this process can be stressful on the pup as well as yourself, but don’t forget to have fun and work on creating a solid bond with your new family member!

Potty training stubborn kids..any advice or tips that worked for you?

Ok, so I have been trying to potty train my twins for about 8 months now, they just recently turned 3. Does anyone have any kind of tips that worked for them for potty training stubborn kids?

My little boy loves sitting on the potty and think he will be potty trained first, just still will not tell me when he has to go. My girl will tell me when she is going, but when she sits on the potty and actually goes she seems to get freaked out by it even though I assure her its ok, the other thing is lately she has also started refusing to even sit on the potty… I have tried everything I can think of…. movies on potty time, little potty seats, potty seat for the big toilet, rewards, stickers, treats, timers, putting them on the potty every 15-20 mins, but at that rate we were in the bathroom all day…. any ideas anyone?? lol Im running out of ideas, everyones frustrated and would like to get them partially potty trained by september when they go to preschool
